Trump Calls Loved Ones of Attacked Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Memorials across the state have been held in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Community members assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the head of her alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to support those in need.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions
Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The incident caused the administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she aimed to meet with the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had courage,” he informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
