The royal figure surrenders his title as the Duke.

Royal figure under scrutiny
The royal has encountered mounting scrutiny over his connections with Jeffrey Epstein.

Prince Andrew is surrendering his honors, including the the Duke, he has declared in a own words.

He has been under mounting scrutiny over his associations with disgraced financier Epstein, with demands for the monarchy to take action against him.

That now seems to have led to the royal deciding to of his own accord return his honors and to relinquish involvement of the prestigious order.

In his statement he said he continued to "firmly dispute the allegations against me".

"In discussion with the monarch, and my direct and broader family, we have decided the ongoing claims about me take away from the work of His Majesty and the royal household," said a announcement from the royal.

"I have opted, as I always have, to put my obligation to my relatives and land first.

"I uphold my decision five years ago to stand back from official duties.

"With His Majesty's agreement, we believe I must now go a further step. I will therefore no longer hold my designation or the distinctions which have been granted to me. As I have said previously, I firmly dispute the allegations against me."

The royal has encountered a range of scandals, among them a legal case he resolved with Virginia Giuffre, questions about his finances and his connection with an alleged Chinese spy.

He will continue to be a member of royalty - but will discontinue to be the the Duke, a honor granted from his the late Queen, the former monarch.

Andrew had already ceased to be a "participating figure" and had lost the use of his royal style and no longer appeared at official royal events. His position now will be even more diminished.

His previous partner will be known as Sarah and no longer the Duchess, but their daughters will persist to have the designation of princess.

He has been under strong attention over his links with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, more lately featuring inquiries about when he had really severed ties.

In his media discussion, the royal had said that he had severed all ties with the financier after they had been pictured together in New York in the end of 2010.

But messages sent in February 2011 later emerged suggesting that he had confidentially stayed in touch with the financier, including exchanging a note: "Stay in contact and we'll meet again soon!"

There had been increasing annoyance in the monarchy at the scandals that continued to plague the royal.

Next week a late publication by Virginia Giuffre will be issued which is anticipated to draw more scrutiny on his connection with Virginia Giuffre and Jeffrey Epstein.
