The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
