The Actress Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Nation Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer appropriate to speak out countering the Trump administration, fearing it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and further divisions within the nation.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes the Actress

During a discussion, Lawrence commented, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, celebrities fail to influence whatsoever on who people vote for.”

Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

The actress has previously been open about supporting right and leftwing contenders throughout her life. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for John McCain in 2008 then moving to the Democrats and revealing she understood during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was opposing her personal freedoms as a woman.

Earlier Remarks

Several years ago, she stated that Trump winning the presidency would be “the end of the world” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “since I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will make every effort to protect women’s health rights.”

Industry Position

The star was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact stars have over the voting intentions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“The second term seems distinct,” said the actress about his administration. “As he made his plans clear. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”

Current Projects

Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a young mom who deals with her emotional state in the countryside. At a press conference for the project in the film festival, she commented on the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”

Wider Issues

Lawrence added by expressing that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the discussions of American politics at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”

She attempted to refocus frustration about the conflict to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she remarked, seen by observers as a reference to the then-recent pledge signed by numerous Hollywood professionals to avoid certain cultural organizations.

Personal Connections

The actor, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her performance in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. While the director has denied the plot being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to elements of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, not long after production wrapped.

“It was fear about my child,” she explained, “imagining every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called Zurzuvae and I took it for 14 days and it really helped.”

Film Challenges

Lawrence also spoke of the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the film while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.

“There’s a freedom,” she commented, about having to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
