Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from the top,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
