Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a extended hiatus after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
