Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year after starting disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road concluded amicably in August.

Among Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading offensive chants regarding Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Past History Between Bamford and the Manager

The pair had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

Everything seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford looking to revive his career.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Playing Challenges
