McKenna's Position on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy twelfth place in England's second tier.

"I have not had such conversations," the English capital native ex- Northern Ireland youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a special job here at a special club. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Anything external hasn't touched my awareness."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big sports organization."

McKenna signed a fresh four-year contract in last year and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as while I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Position

Bellamy represented Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh striker is inclined to complete the ongoing World Cup qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are currently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in November would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a successful Nations League campaign, even if they fail to end up Group J second place.

Considering his current stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the minimum.
