Jurgen Klopp says coming back to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell featuring Champions League success and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, though countless followers who adore the manager would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he shared with the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations must arise to tempt his return to management, he revealed he isn't eager for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent thus frequently a very good mood at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last term. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. They have a strong well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect at the club. The forward was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Unbearable.”
