Alleged Stalker Asked: 'But Imagine I Am Madeleine?'
A female indicted with pursuing Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has persistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard communication data and information obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most covered investigations and remains unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate recorded message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine was, but I believe what I know."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What then? Isn't that significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the recording stated.
The panel was informed that via emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with the police force who compiled the information, informed the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the call data.
On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will continue and I will prove my point."
The court heard the co-defendant established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in the county in that winter.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out using messaging service to Mrs McCann to express the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period leading up to the trip to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.
The court heard communications between the two accused, in November 2024, discussing trying to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their residence, the defendant sent a message which stated: "We're currently positioned outside the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark like investigators. I had hoped to do this with another person I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The trial ongoing.
