Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
