A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
